KULIM, Kedah, June 25 (Bernama) -- Technology Depository Agency Berhad (TDA), an agency under the Ministry of Finance (MoF), recently announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MIMOS Berhad, a government-funded research and development organisation under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). The MoU was signed during the launch of the Semicon Research Consortium and MIMOS Academy at the MIMOS Industrial Technology Innovation Centre (ITIC) in Kulim, Kedah. This strategic partnership between the two agencies, with TDA under the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and MIMOS under MOSTI, aims to supercharge the development of electrical and electronics (E&E), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data storage technology in Penang and its surrounding areas.

TDA plays a pivotal role in fostering collaboration and knowledge transfer within the Malaysian technology ecosystem, leveraging MIMOS's distinguished reputation for cutting-edge R&D and MIMOS's ITIC facility in Kulim serves as a launchpad for innovation, offering crucial resources and support to spur the growth of technology and industrial development in the northern region.

"This MoU signifies more than just collaboration; it represents a shared vision for the future and by working together, TDA and MIMOS aim to unlock Malaysia's full potential as a leader in E&E, AI and data storage technology and contribute to a vibrant and sustainable future," said the CEO of TDA, Dr. Sharoul Jambari.

The collaboration between TDA and MIMOS is anticipated to yield substantial benefits. Malaysian companies will have easier access to advanced E&E technologies and expertise, fostering a strong E&E technology ecosystem in Penang and its surrounding areas. This will create an environment conducive to groundbreaking advancements, with promising R&D projects being supported and driven towards commercialisation. Additionally, the partnership will significantly enhance TDA's Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP) by connecting promising E&E technology companies with ideal research partners and state-of-the-art resources at ITIC, thereby strengthening the programme and boosting Malaysia's position in the global tech industry.

The signing of this MoU marks a new chapter in Malaysia's E&E technology journey. With the combined strengths of TDA and MIMOS, the future holds immense promise for innovation, impactful collaborations, and a thriving E&E technology landscape in Penang and beyond.

Technology Depository Agency (TDA)
Your Preferred Collaboration Partner

Technology Depository Agency (TDA) is a Malaysian government agency under the Ministry of Finance (MoF) established to play a pivotal role in driving the national agenda on economic growth through technological advancement and industry development. TDA achieves this through two mandates: the Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP) and the Performance Based Contract Programme (PBC).

Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP):

The ICP is a government policy mandated under PK1.7 by the Ministry of Finance (MoF). It focuses on value-added creation within government procurement projects. The programme is triggered by procurements that meet pre-determined criteria and are funded by the Malaysian government or utilise federal funds. The ICP's core objective is to ensure these projects are delivered with the most effective cost structure while promoting the transfer of technology and knowledge, developing local industries' capacity and capabilities, and creating market access to sustain the ICP programmes.

ICP's Success:

Since its inception, TDA has successfully implemented a total of 141 ICP programmes encompassing 617 ICP projects across sixteen (16) different Procuring Agencies. These projects represent a cumulative procurement value of RM97.53 billion, which triggered the ICP programme implementation. This impressive track record demonstrates the ICP's effectiveness in promoting economic growth through technological and industrial development within Malaysia.

Performance Based Contract Programme (PBC):

The PBC programme is another policy managed by TDA that falls under the mandate of PK1.8. The PBC programme focuses on incentivising public sector agencies to achieve specific performance targets within their contracts.

TDA: A Catalyst for Progress

Through the ICP and potentially other programmes like the PBC, TDA serves as a critical catalyst for fostering innovation and economic growth within Malaysia. By facilitating technology transfer and encouraging collaboration between government agencies and the private sector, TDA empowers Malaysian industries to become more competitive on a global scale.

Looking Ahead

TDA remains committed to playing a leading role in propelling Malaysia towards a more advanced and sustainable future. With its impactful programmes and dedication to fostering collaboration, TDA is well-positioned to ensure continued economic and technological progress for the nation.
