Towards Selangor's vision as a preferred regional biotechnology hub  

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) -- In conjunction with the National Bioeconomy Showcase 2024, Invest Selangor Berhad and Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (Bioeconomy Corporation) officially signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), solidifying their commitment to advancing Selangor's biotechnology sector.

This MoU marks a significant collaborative effort aimed at realizing Selangor's biotechnology vision, as outlined in the Selangor Biotechnology Action Plan (SBAP). The SBAP, a flagship initiative of Invest Selangor Berhad, provides a comprehensive roadmap for enhancing the biotechnology industry in Selangor. It focuses on medical and healthcare biotechnology, agricultural biotechnology, and industrial and environmental biotechnology subsectors.

Established in 2005 under the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI), Bioeconomy Corporation is Malaysia's primary economic development agency for the biotechnology and bio-based industries. Their expertise and contributions demonstrate Bioeconomy Corporation's commitment to advancing Selangor's biotechnology sector through strategic initiatives promoting innovation and sustainable growth, aligned with Selangor's economic goals. 

Through this MoU, Bioeconomy Corporation and Invest Selangor aim to leverage their respective strengths, expertise, and networks. This collaboration seeks to further develop the biotechnology and bio-based industries in Selangor, showcasing a strong partnership between Federal and State Governments in advancing Selangor's biotechnology sector.

“This is another opportunity for strategic collaboration between Invest Selangor and Bioeconomy Corporation to explore and implement key strategies underlined in our Selangor Biotechnology Action Plan 2021-2030. We look forward to this collaboration,” according to YBhg. Dato’ Hasan Azhari  Hj. Idris, Chief Executive Officer of Invest Selangor Berhad.
