CYBERJAYA, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Technology Depository Agency (TDA), an agency under the Ministry of Finance (MOF) recently hosted a high-level delegation from Thailand to share insights into Malaysia’s successful Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP). This initiative, aimed at fostering technology transfer and local industrial development, has garnered significant international interest.

Led by Assoc. Professor Pongpan Kaewtatip, Vice President of Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), the Thai delegation engaged in comprehensive discussions with TDA and site visits to successful ICP implementations. The objective was to gain a deep understanding of Malaysia’s approach to ICP management and explore potential applications for Thailand’s economic development.

Thailand’s interest in Malaysia’s ICP model underscores the programme’s effectiveness in driving economic growth and technological advancement. By mandating foreign companies to invest in local industries as a condition for securing government contracts, the ICP has been instrumental in nurturing domestic capabilities and creating high-value jobs. Thailand seeks to replicate this success by adopting similar policies to stimulate its own industrial sector.

The knowledge exchange between Malaysia and Thailand marks a significant step towards regional economic integration. By sharing best practices and experiences, both countries can accelerate their development trajectories. The collaboration also opens opportunities for joint ventures, technology partnerships, and talent exchange, further strengthening economic ties within ASEAN.
