KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- NanoMalaysia Berhad (NMB), a company limited by guarantee under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), and Uzma Environergy Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of oil and gas services provider Uzma Berhad, exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today to facilitate cooperation in the field of renewable energy, focusing on research funding activities and knowledge exchange initiatives.
 
The collaboration will also explore opportunities for joint efforts in developing products and solutions in the renewable energy sector, research funding initiatives, and knowledge exchange through programs, workshops, and seminars.
 
NMB, with the support of its subsidiaries, Hypertech Industries Sdn Bhd and Gigafactory Malaysia Sdn Bhd, is spearheading the development of local electric vehicles (EVs) and hydrogen technologies in Malaysia. Uzma Environergy is a wholly owned subsidiary of Uzma Berhad, incorporated in 2017, with a clear vision to create a sustainable living environment and promote green energy.
 
The collaboration between NMB and Uzma Environergy was made during the 2024 Clean Energy Transition Asia Summit (CETA 2024), which is part of the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2024). The MOU handover between NMB’s Chairman, Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Ir Dr Mohamad Zawawi Bin Ismail and Uzma Environergy’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Hilmy Abdullah Zawawi, was witnessed by the Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Dato' Sri Haji Fadillah Bin Haji Yusof and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), YBhg. Dato' Ts Dr Hj Aminuddin Bin Hassim.
 
NanoMalaysia’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Rezal Khairi Ahmad, said: “The MOU is positioned as the first step leading towards the joint development of renewable energy solutions based on relevant local technology proof of concepts, utilising the combined expertise of both organisations to push for commercially viable innovative sustainable systems for market deployment supporting National Energy Transition Roadmap and the recently launched National Climate Change Policy 2.0 targets.”
 
Uzma Berhad Chief Technology and Innovation Officer Ts. Dr Ahmad Khalid Md Khairi said: “This MOU marks a significant milestone for Uzma Environergy as we strengthen our commitment to driving Malaysia's renewable energy agenda. Through this partnership with NanoMalaysia Berhad, we aim to accelerate the development of cutting-edge green technologies contributing to the nation’s broader sustainability goals”.
 
The MOU aligns with Malaysia's Hydrogen Economy & Technology Roadmap (HETR) and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), which aims to utilise 70% renewable energy sources in Malaysia by 2050. The agreement also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, which ensures universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable energy. This includes improving energy efficiency, increasing the share of renewables and further diversifying the energy mix while ensuring energy affordability for all.
