MALAYSIAN GREEN TECHNOLOGY AND CLIMATE CHANGE CORPORATION FORMED PARTNERSHIPS TO CREATE A FUTURE WHERE ECONOMIC GROWTH ALIGNS WITH ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

Friday 11/10/2024

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The second day of IGEM 2024 saw the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) continue its forward momentum in advancing Malaysia’s green transformation. Through strategic collaborations announced yesterday, MGTC highlighted its focus on green technologies and initiatives that aim to create lasting environmental and economic benefits for the country.

MGTC and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) have signed a memorandum of understanding witnessed by YB Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, to reduce carbon emissions at the organisational level. This venture will focus on scope three greenhouse gas assessments, a critical step in identifying and addressing indirect emissions throughout the company's value chain. This collaboration will drive knowledge-sharing and capacity-building within SEB and its value chain, thus transforming many low-carbon businesses.

Meanwhile, the Letter of Intent (LOI) signed between MGTC and Perbadanan Teknologi Hijau Melaka signifies a commitment to enhancing green technology initiatives in the state. This collaboration will concentrate on executing renewable energy projects, sustainable urban development and other green initiatives to aid Melaka’s transition to a low-carbon economy. The Parties agree to use this LOI as a general framework for potential cooperation, including exploring collaboration areas, sharing expertise and technology innovations, and pursuing additional mutually beneficial initiatives.

Furthermore, MGTC has formalised a Memorandum of Collaboration (MOC) with SAE-A STX Entech Co Ltd, targeting the development of innovative solutions that reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency, thus ensuring Malaysia’s leadership in regional green technology advancements. The collaboration will also explore the build and installation of solar power systems across Malaysia, facilitate the technological transfer and commercialisation of SAE-A’s solar technology, and will commence with MGTC’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Greentech Catalyst Sdn Bhd (GTC), with the signing witnessed by Chairman of MGTC, Puan Shareen Shariza Binti Dato’ Abdul Ghani.

Group Chief Executive Officer of MGTC, Ir Ts Shamsul Bahar Mohd Noor, shared his insights, “By working together with local and global partners, we’re not just investing in technology or the economy, we're investing in a better quality of life for our people. These initiatives reflect our commitment to leaving a lasting, positive impact on the environment, creating more green jobs and ensuring that sustainable solutions are accessible to all. As we continue to build these partnerships, we're also building a future where economic growth and environmental responsibility go hand in hand."

With these collaborations as a stepping stone, MGTC is excited about the future impact on Malaysia’s green economy and the broader goal of regional leadership in sustainability.
