PETALING JAYA, Selangor, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC) is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Institution Centre for the Development of Halal Industry under the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic.

This significant event follows HDC's participation in the first Bilateral Consultation between Malaysia and the Kyrgyz Republic, held in February 2024 in Bishkek. Organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this consultation focused on exploring potential collaborations in the halal industry.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Hairol Ariffein Sahari, Chief Executive Officer of HDC, and Mr. Kaiyrbekov Almaz Damirbekovich, Director of the State Institution Centre for the Development of Halal Industry. The ceremony was witnessed by HDC’s Chairman, Khairul Azwan Harun and H.E. Mr. Anvar Anarbaev, Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Malaysia.

This collaboration comes soon after Malaysian Prime Minister YAB Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visit to Kyrgyzstan in May this year. During this visit, Prime Minister Anwar emphasized Malaysia's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through various sectors, including the halal ecosystem, trade and investment.

In his discussions with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, Prime Minister YAB Anwar expressed Malaysia's readiness to explore opportunities within the halal industry, stressing its vast potential for both countries. He noted that key ministers from his delegation were present to reinforce this commitment, including the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Chairman of HDC said, “This MoU signifies a mutual aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations between Malaysia and Kyrgyz Republic through cooperation in halal initiatives. It aims to foster greater trade and investment activities while providing wider market access opportunities for halal industry players in both countries.”

HDC is committed to enhancing Malaysia’s position as a global leader in the halal industry, and this collaboration with Kyrgyz Republic marks a pivotal step towards achieving that goal.
