PETRONAS COLLABORATES WITH KEY PLAYERS TO STRENGTHEN PRODUCTIVITY AND EFFICIENCY OF MALAYSIA’S OGSE SECTOR

Wednesday 23/04/2025

KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 (Bernama) -- PETRONAS, through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), has signed 11 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen Malaysia’s oil and gas services and equipment (OGSE) sector through two key initiatives, namely Yard Transformation and Productivity Enhancement, and Skilled Trade Champion.

The agreements leverage collaboration with industry players to enhance the performance of fabrication yards through modernisation and to cultivate a highly skilled local workforce, ultimately positioning Malaysia to meet the evolving demands of the sector.

“The MoUs reflect PETRONAS’ steadfast commitment to build a robust and sustainable oil and gas sector in Malaysia. The structured implementation, undertaken in close collaboration with homegrown OGSE players, will focus on delivering measurable outcomes to create an environment that is conducive for investment and accelerated growth, aligned with national aspirations,” said Senior Vice President of MPM, Datuk Ir. Bacho Pilong.

As part of the Yard Transformation and Productivity Enhancement initiative, PETRONAS signed five MoUs with leading local fabrication yard contractors: Brooke Holding Sdn Bhd (BHSB), Ocean Might Sdn Bhd (OMSB), Muhibbah Engineering (M) Berhad (MEB), Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Berhad (MHB), and Sapura Fabrication Sdn Bhd (SFSB).

This initiative is a key component of Malaysia’s national strategy to revitalise the fabrication yard ecosystem. The transformation efforts are focused on integrating innovative technologies, developing workforce capabilities, and expanding market opportunities to boost productivity.

Under the Skilled Trade Champion initiative, six MoUs were signed with key industry players, including Pan-Malaysia Maintenance, Construction and Modification (MCM) contractors, Hook-up and Commissioning (HUC) contractors, and Malaysia Offshore Support Vessel Owners’ Association (MOSVA).

These partnerships focus on strengthening critical offshore trades such as rigging, blasting and painting, scaffolding, welding, joint-making, and seafaring. The initiative also prioritises the upskilling of Malaysian seafarers to cultivate a greater number of qualified officers in offshore marine operations.
