SEPANG, 20 May (Bernama) -- SIRIM Berhad, Malaysia’s leader in innovation and quality, celebrates World Metrology Day with a symposium at the National Metrology Institute of Malaysia (NMIM) in Sepang today. The event brings together professionals, industry experts and researchers to explore advancements in measurement, calibration, and emerging technologies. The theme for World Metrology Day (WWD) 2025, "
Measurements for All Times, for All People", also marks the 150th anniversary of the Metre Convention.
This symposium featured insightful keynote presentations from leading experts, offering an ideal platform for interactive panel discussions with regulators. Participants also had the exclusive opportunity to explore Malaysia’s measurement facilities, gaining valuable knowledge and networking opportunities.
The World Metrology Day 2025 Symposium was officiated by Dato’ Ir. Prof. Dr. Norlida Buniyamin, Chairman of the National Measurement Council, alongside the President & Group Chief Executive Officer of SIRIM Berhad, Dato’ Indera Ir. Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad.
Dato’ Ir. Prof. Dr. Norlida Buniyamin highlighted that prosperity and economic growth depend on a country’s ability to develop, produce and trade quality products and services. She said metrology builds trust in these products and services while reducing trade barriers.
“NMIM developed five new measurement standards and produced more than 10 experts in the effort to disseminate the measurement traceability for various industry sectors including E&E, aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, metal, ceramic and glass. With the established measurement standards, NMIM not only supports the industries and other beneficiaries nationwide but also attracts business opportunities for Malaysia in the international services supply chain.”
Dato’ Indera Ir. Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad said as Malaysia’s measurement authority, NMIM will uphold national standards and calibration under the 2007 law. By working worldwide, it ensures accurate measurements for trade, industry, and consumer protection.
“NMIM will continue to promote and disseminate measurement parameters and technology in the country including providing high accuracy calibration services of measurement standards, consultancy services on specialized measurement projects and also providing metrology skill programs on measurement techniques”.
