Sunday 25/05/2025

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan led the Malaysian delegation to the ASEAN-GCC Ministerial Meeting held on 25 May 2025 in Kuala Lumpur. This meeting marked the final engagement in the series of high-level discussions leading up to the 46th ASEAN Summit.

The meeting was co-chaired by Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines Enrique A. Manalo and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, in their capacities as country coordinators for ASEAN and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), respectively.

The meeting reviewed the current state of cooperation between ASEAN and the GCC and explored ways to further strengthen relations. Discussions focused on the implementation of the ASEAN-GCC Framework of Cooperation (2024–2028), which provides a structured platform for advancing institutional ties and deepening collaboration between the two regional groupings.

Malaysia called for enhanced cooperation across a wide range of areas, including political-security coordination, efforts to combat transnational threats, counter-terrorism, and cybersecurity. The Foreign Minister also emphasised the importance of economic development, sustainable and inclusive growth, and people-to-people engagement—particularly in education, culture, health, and youth empowerment.
