Saint-Gobain Celebrates 360 Years of Excellence and Sustainability Leadership

Friday 11/07/2025

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- This year, Saint-Gobain celebrates an incredible milestone—360 years of innovation and excellence. With a mission of “Making the World a Better Home,” Saint-Gobain is leading the charge toward a future where buildings are not only smarter and stronger, but also more sustainable.

As the world leader in light and sustainable construction, Saint-Gobain designs and produces materials that improve how we live, making homes more comfortable, workplaces more efficient, and cities more climate-ready. “Quality housing and improved living conditions are at the heart of sustainable development,” said Ng Kah Seng, R&D & Sustainability Director of Saint-Gobain Malaysia. But with the construction industry responsible for nearly 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions, the future of the planet depends on how we build today.

Saint-Gobain’s vision is clear: carbon neutrality by 2050. To reach this goal, the company has laid out a detailed plan that focuses on Water Management, CO₂ Emission Reduction, Circular Economy, and Product Stewardship. In 2024, Saint-Gobain Malaysia achieved:

  • ~5,310MT CO₂ reduction in CO₂ emissions, the same impact as planting over 250,000 trees.
  • Installation of solar panels at one of its plants, reducing ~770MT CO₂ of carbon emissions. In 2025, we will expand these efforts to two more of our plants.
  • A 26% drop in carbon footprint at one facility by switching from fossil fuels to cleaner natural gas.
  • Development of eco-friendly products with over 30% lower carbon footprint, without sacrificing performance.

Saint-Gobain is also working on biodegradable packaging to cut down on plastic waste and continues to assess the full environmental impact of its products through tools like Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPD).

Think homes built with low-carbon materials, designed to withstand floods and heat, and construction sites that generate zero waste. But Saint-Gobain knows it can’t do it alone.

“Real change happens when we all work together,” Lynette Siow, CEO of Saint-Gobain Malaysia & Singapore added. “We’re proud to partner with like-minded organizations and communities to move Malaysia toward a more sustainable future.”

More than just ticking boxes, Saint-Gobain aims to inspire others in the building and construction space to step up and join the movement. As it celebrates 360 years of building better, Saint-Gobain is more committed than ever to creating homes that are healthier for people and the planet.
