Malaysia Book of Records Celebrates 30 Years of Extraordinary Achievements

Tuesday 15/07/2025

PETALING JAYA, July 15 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) celebrated a major milestone with a dazzling gala dinner in honour of its 30th Anniversary, held on 11 July 2025 at One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya. The once-in-a-decade event brought together Malaysia’s most inspiring record holders, visionary leaders, and cultural icons for an unforgettable night celebrating three decades of national excellence.

Graced by YB Teo Nie Ching, Deputy Minister of Communications, the event paid tribute to the exceptional Malaysians who have redefined what is possible and inspired the nation through their record-breaking achievements. In her speech, YB Teo commended MBR for how it has continued to evolve with times – whether in print, online or social media and remaining steadfast in its mission to honour excellence in all its forms, connecting Malaysians across every generation and background whilst upholding the spirit of Malaysian determination, diversity, and creativity.

Guests were also treated to an exclusive teaser screening of the upcoming Malaysia Book of Records TV series, "Malaysia Book of Records 2025 – Malaysia Luar Biasa", set to air in August, timely for our national day month on Bernama TV via Astro 502. The series promises to offer an inspiring, behind-the-scenes look at the stories and journeys of some of the nation's most remarkable record holders.

The black-tie affair was attended by over 800 distinguished guests, including Olympians, world champions, media executives, business association leaders, notable attendees were Tower-running champion Soh Wai Ching, Olympian Goh Liu Ying, young racing prodigy Sophia Zara Mustaffa Kamal, and Malaysia’s shortest man, Mohd Sukur Ibrahim, whose personal stories captured the hearts of all in attendance.

An inspirational spotlight session featured prominent record holders sharing their remarkable journeys. From Dato’ M. Magendran, the first Malaysian to summit Mount Everest, to Dato’ Calvin Chan a leader in business innovation, each speaker offered powerful insight into the resilience, passion, and perseverance required to push boundaries and make history.

In a proud moment for the nation, 91 National Record Holders were officially recognised on the night, highlighting the incredible diversity and strength of Malaysian talent.

The evening also featured spectacular performances by Martin Looi, Malaysia’s record-holding violinist, and the dazzling duo Mark & Pinky, who amazed the crowd with their record-breaking number of costume changes.

As MBR looks forward to the next chapter, the event was a powerful reminder of how ordinary Malaysians continue to achieve the extraordinary — and how the Malaysia Book of Records remains a steadfast beacon of national pride and inspiration.

The event also recognised the vital role of Malaysian media in supporting and promoting the nation’s achievers. A special appreciation presentation was made to major media organisations and editors who have consistently championed the stories of Malaysia’s best and brightest over the past three decades. Special appreciation was also extended to Malaysian business associations for their strong commitment to Rosyam Nor, and top executives from Media Prima Berhad, Bernama, Star Media Group, MCIL-Sin Chew Media/China Press, Guang Ming, Kwong Wah and Sun Media Corporation and online media Malaysiakini, MalaysiaGazette, Scoop, LowyatMedia and many more. Business Associations heads present were Dato’ Ng Yih Ping ACCCIM President, Dato’ Teh Tai Yong PUMM President, Datin Winnie Loo Branding Association Malaysia President, Dato’ Sri Ricky Yaw SME Association Malaysia VP, Christine Tan MRCA Deputy Treasurer general.

Reflecting on the evening, Dato’ Seri Michael Tio, Chairman of MBR, said: “Malaysia Book of Records was conceptualised in the Malaysia Boleh era to be the national record keeper of all the Malaysia Boleh attempts. Today we have certified 8800 records and published 17 English editions. We hope to inspire more Malaysian to break record by bringing back our TV series Malaysia Luar Biasa with Bernama TV.”

The 30th Anniversary Dinner reaffirms MBR’s commitment to celebrating excellence and inspiring future record breakers across Malaysia.
