SERDANG, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- Putra Business School (PBS) successfully carried out its latest community and environmental initiative, a tree planting programme entitled “EcoLegacy: Trees for Tomorrow”, at Hutan Simpan Ayer Hitam (HSAH), Puchong, also known as the Sultan Idris Shah Forestry Education Centre (SISFEC).
The programme was officiated by His Highness Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, Crown Prince of Selangor and Chancellor of PBS. It was co-organised with Mega Fortris Berhad and Coffex (M) Sdn Bhd, with the support of strategic partners: Selangor Forestry Department, Faculty of Forestry and Environment, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and the Selangor Youth Community.
A total of 150 trees were planted by PBS students, alumni, staff, and partners as part of the initiative, marking the first phase of a larger commitment to plant 500 trees in the area. The programme also featured engaging side activities such as a DIY Terrarium Workshop, a tree-climbing demonstration, and booth presentations to promote awareness of biodiversity and conservation practices.
The programme’s objectives centred on promoting environmental stewardship, fostering community involvement in sustainability, supporting Selangor’s reforestation and conservation efforts, and providing participants with a meaningful hands-on ecological experience. It also contributed to the National 100 Million Tree Planting Campaign (2021–2025) led by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA).
Prof. Dr. Azmawani Abd Rahman, President & Chief Executive Officer of PBS, emphasised the importance of collective responsibility.
“This programme is not just about planting trees; it is about planting values. It is about instilling a sense of shared responsibility in protecting the environment and leaving behind a legacy for future generations.”
She added that PBS was proud to play a role in continuing the royal and academic heritage of HSAH.
“By holding this event at Hutan Simpan Ayer Hitam, we honour the legacy of His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who officiated SISFEC as a centre of excellence for forestry education and research. Today, we build on that vision by engaging our students, alumni, partners, and the community in meaningful environmental action.”
The event highlighted PBS’s commitment to one of its strategic goals: creating a positive social and environmental impact through community engagement and responsible action.
