KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- Every great institution has a story. For Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK), that story began in 1997 with a vision to create a university that blends academic excellence with real-world practice. Today, that vision has reached a proud new milestone. UNIRAZAK has been awarded the prestigious QS Overall 5-Stars Excellent rating, joining the ranks of top global universities. This milestone was proudly announced during UNIRAZAK’s 24^th Convocation Ceremony by its Chairman and Pro-Chancellor, YBhg. Dato’ Mohamed Nizam Abdul Razak.
 
The QS Stars Rating System, launched in 2009, was designed to go beyond rankings and tell the full story of a university. Unlike rankings, which pit institutions against one another, QS Stars evaluates universities individually across categories such as Teaching, Employability, Research, Facilities, Internationalisation, Social Impact, and more.
 
Over 700 institutions in more than 70 countries have undertaken this rigorous assessment. Of those, only 132 universities worldwide currently hold the QS Overall 5-Stars Excellent rating and higher.
 
In the 2025 assessment, UNIRAZAK’s pioneering spirit in digital education earned it 5 Stars in Online Learning, solidifying a legacy of excellence that traces back to 2022, when UNIRAZAK was honoured with the International University Carnival on E-Learning (IUCEL) Award, hosted by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), for Best e-Learning Management System for its UNIRAZAK Online Experience (UROX).
 
Beyond its excellence in online learning, UNIRAZAK’s near-perfect score in Teaching highlights its student-first philosophy, one that goes beyond imparting knowledge but nurturing graduates through mentorship, quality learning environment, and unwavering academic support.
 
In Employability, UNIRAZAK achieved another shining result, evidence of its strong ties with industry and its mission to ensure graduates are not only educated but ready to thrive. This proves what employers already know: UNIRAZAK students bring real value to the workplace.
 
Even its Specialist Programme in Accounting with CPA Australia received 5-Star recognition, a mark of confidence that UNIRAZAK is shaping and producing professionals of calibre who can compete and contribute on both national and international stages.
 
Its unwavering commitment to inclusivity and fairness was celebrated with nearly full marks in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Together, these achievements highlight UNIRAZAK’s dual promise: to embrace innovation without leaving anyone behind.
 
Despite its QS Overall 5-Stars Excellent rating success, UNIRAZAK acknowledges the need to continue strengthening its research collaboration, global engagement and academic development.
 
The University’s Pro Chancellor YBhg. Dato’ Mohamed Nizam Abdul Razak said, “When our family first discussed establishing this university, we believed a private university model would allow us the flexibility to innovate. Of course, we were aware of the challenges that would come with it, particularly in terms of funding. But our motivation was rooted on purpose, not convenience.” 
 
He continued, “My late father, Tun Abdul Razak, always championed the democratisation of education and the spirit of entrepreneurship. Those ideals became the soul of UNIRAZAK. Nearly three decades on, it’s remarkable to see how that family vision has evolved into a shared aspiration, one carried by every Razakian, lecturer, staff member, and student.”
 
Yet, true to its character, UNIRAZAK does not see the QS Overall 5-Stars Excellent rating as the end of the journey. This balance of achievement and ambition is what defines UNIRAZAK’s journey of a university that is proud of how far it has come, but restless enough to keep striving for more.
