MIDA visit with Kampung Cegar to Proton @ Tanjung Malim

TANJUNG MALIM, Perak, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) today organised a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) visit to PROTON’s advanced manufacturing facility in Tanjung Malim, welcoming members of its kampung angkat community from Kampung Cegar, Bidor, Perak. The programme provided a platform for local youth and community members to gain exposure to Malaysia’s high-tech industrial landscape.

The visit was led by En. Zainal Abdul Rahman, Director of Corporate Management Division, MIDA, accompanied by 10 MIDA officials, while 20 residents from Kampung Cegar, aged 14 years and above, participated in the programme.

The visit provided first-hand industry exposure through guided tours and briefings showcasing advanced manufacturing processes, automation, and Industry 4.0 practices at Malaysia's national automotive company. Participants were given insights into modern industrial operations while gaining a better understanding of career pathways in technical and engineering-related fields.

PROTON's Tanjung Malim facility, one of Southeast Asia's most advanced automotive manufacturing facilities, provided an ideal learning platform for the programme. The integrated manufacturing complex incorporates cutting-edge technologies including  robotics, digital quality control systems, and smart manufacturing processes across its production lines. Currently producing multiple vehicle models for both domestic and export markets, the facility represents Malaysia's automotive manufacturing capabilities and employs thousands in technical, engineering, and skilled production roles.

Beyond industrial exposure, the programme also aimed to inspire young members of the community to pursue Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as well as engineering pathways, nurturing a talent pipeline aligned with Malaysia’s growing industrial needs.

MIDA Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid,
said the initiative demonstrates the agency’s commitment to inclusive growth under the MADANI Economy Framework. “Many young people have never had the opportunity to see advanced manufacturing up close. When they step into a real production environment and see how  robotics, precision  engineering and skilled technicians works together, it helps them better appreciate the value and potential of technical careers,” he said.

He added that MIDA’s role extends beyond attracting investments to ensuring that industrial growth creates real opportunities for people, especially young Malaysians and local communities.

“Through initiatives such as kampung angkat,  we want to make sure economic development also supports talent development and meaningful community engagement. When communities are connected to industry, growth becomes more sustainable and inclusive,” he said.
