A Landmark Reimagined for Today
Opened in August 1957, in time for Merdeka, The Federal Kuala Lumpur holds a special place in the nation’s history as Malaysia’s first international-class hotel.

The recent refurbishment respectfully preserves the building’s architectural character while introducing modern comforts. Key original elements — including the façade have been reimagined while preserving the essence of its early architecture. Guests arrive under a porte cochère illuminated by a retrofitted canopy grid of warm globe lights. At the entrance, the hotel’s original white marble lions continue to stand guard, symbolising prosperity, protection and enduring fortune.

Sustainability is thoughtfully integrated into the guest experience, reflecting the hotel’s commitment to responsible travel.

“As Malaysia celebrates Visit Malaysia 2026, the reopening of The Federal Kuala Lumpur is especially meaningful. A familiar place for many, we are inviting guests back into a living story, one that reflects our storied past while welcoming a new generation,” said Jenny Aw, Operations Manager of The Federal Kuala Lumpur.

The Federal Kuala Lumpur’s renewed chapter marks a homecoming, bringing together cherished memories with refreshed experiences. Today, the hotel welcomes guests to rediscover a familiar place, redesigned for a new generation of travellers.
